Rachel's Birthday!

Horrendously overdue post!

Our Dear Little Friend Rachel turned the big 2-0 recently and we had a birthday party for her!

There were decorations and lots of delicious foods, we made all of her favourites.
The kind of cheese that she likes, her favourite Neenish Tarts, and above all, a birthday cake.

Bridget and I bought Rachel a hat, her very favourite I Love Ugly hat she wanted so much!

Amongst the guests were Rachel's flatmates and good chums, and a lovely girl also named Rachel! She and I bonded over books, she adored our Reading Room!

Honestly, who wouldn't adore it in all its cuteness!

Finally we have a flat photo of us all together! Me, Jaimee, Bridget and Lauren!

I'm glad Rachel got borned. It was lovely celebrating her in our Little House.

Blessings,
Leah x

Texas-Style Fruit Cobbler

So today in Wellington, the weather is wet and wild, and thus has inspired me to make something cosy and delicious.

Today I want to share with you Scarletta Bakes' Texas-Style Fruit Cobbler.
Scarletta is one talented lady, who makes yummo food left right and centre, I seriously recommend browsing her blog for recipes.

You can find the cobbler recipe HERE.

As she suggests - any fruit can be used so long as it isnt watery (melon etc) or banana (as itll go too mushy). If you don't have fresh fruit use tinned, and if you dont have a lemon for the top, use any citrus fruit.

Sugar fast

Bridget and I have been on a sugar fast for the past few days, and this weekend B is going to a lady's breakfast. She decided to be a good influence and take fruit as her contribution.
Of course, we had to have a little fun with the preparation.

And we get to eat the edges. Yum!

Bee's Desk Makeover

Hi all,

So earlier this week a friend gave me a desk that was without a home. They had built it themselves and had originally given it as a gift to someone - but alas it did not suit this person anymore...cue me and my lack of desk...and here we are!
The desk is rather epic (to say the least!). It has wooden cross sections that act as legs, a nice wide desk top, a massive block of shelving that sits on top of it all, and even has two little spotlights wired in for extra lighting!
Anyway, upon picking it up we realised it was in need of a tidy up and a paint job so DIY began!

Here are the before photos:

And here are the after photos:

Little House's Thursday Excursion

Hello Friends!

Us gals here at Little House went for a wee trip on Thursday to Berhampore. Berhampore is the neighbouring suburb to our beloved Newtown, it's a little bit smaller and has less shops, but one very interesting shop it does have is Evil Genius. Evil Genius was in Lyttleton, Christchurch, but in the February 22nd earthquake, their shop was destroyed after being in business for just five days! So, they packed up and moved on out to Windy Wellington. They sell new and used records and they brew delicious Lyttleton coffee :D Excellent!

Fun!

EG had a deal on all the records not nice enough to sell, 4 for $10! Bridget and I found some real gems, can't wait to share mine with my Dad next time I'm home :-)

Drizzly

Today looks like this.
Luckily, the garden looks rather pretty with watery drops decorating everything.
Dandelions and daisies and clover, oh my!

Twig came out briefly to investigate what I was doing out in the rain.
Best to be inside, with the record player on. Here is what Im listening to today:

Notes and blogs and crafts and gift wrapping and projects.
AND SUPER MARIO JELLIES!!!!

Hope you're having a lovely weekend.

Jaimee's DIY Corner

Hi all! It has been a while, I know. The holiday season has had all of us busy, and I had some problems getting the correct size screws for my gorgeous new handles. I also had some trouble getting those pesky All Blacks stickers off. A man would suggest you go and buy some Meths to dissolve the glue, but we don't have any of that lying around at little house, so I used my female ingenuity and used nail polish remover. Worked like a charm. So, all is coming along now.
Bridget kindly got a bit of a candid shot of me drilling holes in my drawers, and now the painting begins! (My room is currently an assortment of piles of things, since it has been so windy, I can't let my drawers dry outside!)
Thanks to my friend Izzy who works at Resene, I managed to get some free test pots! I just chose a basic warm peachey cream colour called Solitaire to go with the brassy handles.
Can't wait till they're finished!

Brownie-in-a-cup Recipe

Microwave Brownie in a cup!
So easy and prefect for when you need a quick fix dessert.

Ingredients:

2 Tablespoons Vegetable Oil
2 Tablespoons Water
1/4 Teaspoon Vanilla essence
A dash of salt
2 Tablespoons cocoa
4 Tablespoons Sugar
4 Tablespoons Plain flour

Method:

In a bowl/ small jug whisk together well the oil, water, and vanilla essence.
Add the cocoa and sugar and whisk well.
Add flour and give it a final well whisking!
Put the mixture into a microwave safe mug and microwave for 1 minute on high.

This method makes around 1/2 a mug of brownie, just enough to top with ice-cream!
If you're more keen on having more brownie in yo' mug, double the recipe, and microwave instead for 1.45 minutes.

Bits and bobs

Hi there!

Here are a few bits and bobs that have been happening around Little House lately.

Leah covered in polystyrene bits.

Lauren came home after work one night to find Twiggy napping inside some old boxes.

New-old tablecloth scored for $4.00 at our local Salvation Army Store.

The weather this summer in Wellington has been ALL OVER THE SHOW. This photo was taken on one of our still sunny days from the top of our Garden.
Who has a blackberry bush? HOLLA! This is our very first berry of the season. Woop woop!
